We are currently seeking: 

Head of Marine, Vetting and HSEQ, BW LPG

To support our vision to be Best on Water and to boost our growth, BW LPG is looking for a highly motivated Head of Marine, Vetting and HSEQ to lead our Marine team and provide the highest level of HSE Compliance and Maritime Security in operating our fleet. You will be the lead liaison with Oil Majors and ensure that the fleet’s OCIMF compliance is optimal for the business. Your role is pivotal in communicating effectively with the technical, commercial, and operational units of the organization on all Marine and Vetting activities involving the fleet.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading the team of marine superintendents in vetting, HSEQ, safety, security, and environmental performance of BW LPG vessels.
  • Managing team of marine/HSEQ superintendents and leading them by example.
  • Manage HSEQ department and lead the drive of the company safety performance towards our target of zero harm and no incidents.
  • To maintain an overview of the SIRE and CDI inspection schemes for the whole fleet.
  • Retain and upgrade knowledge of the oil major and other customers inspection and trade requirements.
  • Regularly visit customers’ offices to collect feedback, provide company updates and share observations.
  • Perform final review of the SIRE and CDI deficiencies in terms of their cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions, as well as verify and finalize comments for the final upload to the OCIMF and CDI websites.
  • Ensuring that internal and external audit findings are given an appropriate root cause analysis, adequate preventative action plan and are closed within specified due dates.
  • Assist the Alert Team as deemed necessary by the Alert Team Leader.
  • Remain familiar with applicable national/international regulations and industry requirements. Advice senior management if changes in current policies and procedures required to accommodate them.
  • Responsible for customer approvals and minimization of number of business rejections.
  • Analyze and monitor fleet data to minimize loss due to errors, accidents, and incidents.
  • Assist and lead root cause investigation in cooperation with HSEQ Department, determining applicable safeguards and recommendations to minimize likelihood of recurrence.
  • Continuously and pro-actively assess operational risks from marine, vetting and navigational perspective for our fleet.
  • Assess submitted risk assessments and revert with remarks when deemed necessary for acceptance, including business risks.
  • Responsible for briefing and debriefing officers of assigned vessels on marine matters, including (but not limited to) navigation, cargo, mooring, anchoring and risk management.
  • Prepare input to Zero Harm Appraisal system for Senior Officers for each visit onboard and submit those in the system.
  • Actively participate in Visible Leadership program, including ship visits.
  • Carry out at least one vessel visit per year.
  • Provide cargo, vetting, security and nautical guidance to vessels.
  • Be prepared to become the company DPA if necessary and agreed with senior management.
  • Attend officers’ conferences.

Qualifications:

  • BSc/MSc preferable within Marine. Experience of sailing in a senior rank on gas vessels is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Maritime industry.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Proven leadership skills, preferable within ship management and/or maritime industry.
  • Experience with managing OCIMF SIRE Inspections and TMSA.
  • Knowledge of risk management and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Interest in and experience with developing and maintaining a global quality management system, including incident management and continuous improvement systems.
  • Good command of English language, both oral and written.
